Drinking and dining options include a lobby bar and café, rooftop bar, subterranean lounge, and French-Mediterranean restaurant from chef Jason Hall. The 286 guest rooms are minimally decorated but sleek (some even have bunk beds), and have reliable Wi-Fi and great views of Lower Manhattan. Located on East 11th Street across from Webster Hall, this particular outpost pays homage to its neighborhood in a genius way: Each floor of the hotel draws inspiration from a different era in East Village history, from the earliest settlers and the punk era to today. From the start, cool kids have flocked here like moths to a flame: The hotel was one of the first to install a DJ booth in the lobby, and Radiohead even hosted their press launches for OK Computer and Kid A here. Its architecture and design draw on Soho’s industrial heritage with touches like bottle glass, cast-iron molding, and masonry columns that you’d normally find in the nearby old warehouses and factories. Opened in 1996 as downtown’s first luxury boutique hotel, the Soho Grand helped put its namesake neighborhood on the map among the fashionista set.
